Founded by Rabbi Yitzchak Shteiner and Rabbi Yitzchak Goldshtein, both top experts in torah evaluation and repair, Machon Ot forged many innovations in the field of torah identification and maintenance (as well as stam) with the approval of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel and other leading rabbinical authorities.
Based in Jerusalem, Machon Ot, a non-profit organization, has developed computerized techniques of torah identification used by both The Israel National Police, Interpol and The New York Police Department to identify stolen torah scrolls.

Does your synagogue have a Torah Scroll, Mezuzah or Tefillin in need of repair or evaluation?

The expertise of torah restoration is an art, above and beyond the ability of most scribes (sofrei stam). Using the latest hi-tech equipment, Rabbis Shteiner and Goldshtein, have researched and developed new techniques in the field of torah repair. They have co-authored several sifrei halacha on the complexities and intricacies of stam, and the identification of damage to torah scrolls, tefillin and mezuzahs that have been well received by both the rabbinic and lay community. They have examined and repaired over 10,000 torah scrolls in Jewish communities and synagogues throughout the world during the past two decades.

On arrival at your community, our staff will quickly set up a workshop in the synagogue and conduct an examination of each of your torah scrolls. At this time the evaluation and analysis of the physical condition of the torah scrolls will be explained to you (or your representative). Shortly thereafter, you will receive a detailed explanation of the exact condition of each torah scroll and its appraised value, valid for insurance purposes.

Tour Inside the TefillinEvery examined scroll is entered into The International Torah Registry, a worldwide computer database assigning a unique torah code (likened to a fingerprint) to every torah scroll analyzed. Using this technique, any torah scroll can be immediately identified and matched with its owner. This technique is the only one used by both The Israel National Police, Interpol and The New York Police Department for returning a recovered stolen torah scroll.
